Website Accessibility Statement

Using this website

This website is run by Hayle Town Council

We aim to make our website as accessible and easy for people to use as possible.

How accessible?

We know we can do better:

some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • older PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software
  • some of our online forms can be harder to navigate using just a keyboard and screen reader software – you can contact us using the details on the contact us page to ask for alternative formats

What to do if you can’t access parts of this website

If you need information on this website in a different format – like accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille – please contact info@hayletowncouncil.gov.uk

Reporting accessibility problems with this website

We’re always looking to improve. If you do find any problems or think we’re not meeting the requirements of the accessibility regulations, please contact info@hayletowncouncil.gov.uk

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing and explaining our services. For example, some of the reports are supplied to us as PDF’s and we add them to our archive without any additional work.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

We will strive to ensure that any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 AA standard.

Non-Accessible Issues

Issues with PDFs and Other Documents

Many of our older PDFs and Word Documents may not meet accessibility standards – for example they may not be marked up so they’re accessible to a screen reader.

The accessibility regulations don’t require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

3rd Party Content

We strive to ensure that all our PDFs are accessibility-checked and compliant with accessibility standards, making our content as inclusive as possible. However, we cannot take responsibility for the accessibility of third-party content, such as reports and documentation not generated by us and submitted to us for inclusion on agendas and minutes. These documents are provided as received, and their accessibility remains the responsibility of the third-party authors.

Issues with images

There may be a small number of images on the website that don’t have alternative text. We are working to rectify this as soon as possible.

What We’re Doing to Fix Accessibility Issues

We have a plan in place and are systematically working to fix any issues. We have limited resources, but we are putting a large proportion of our time into making our website compliant and as accessible as possible.

We are also training staff who are responsible for providing content for the website in how to make content more accessible and to improve the content already on the site that may have issues.

The sites will also be routinely tested for accessibility to confirm continuous compliance with the new WCAG 2.2 regulations and future versions.
