Our CCTV Network
Hayle Town Council owns and maintains a network of nine public space CCTV cameras throughout the town, and we have teamed up with St Ives and Penzance Town Councils to manage these cameras within a partnership arrangement of West Cornwall CCTV.
Our cameras are linked to a control centre which is based in St Ives, and they operate and record 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They are actively monitored for a certain amount of time each week, as directed and required by the Town Council.
During monitored hours, the CCTV operators can log incidents or contact the police directly to escalate issues. Outside of these hours, the camera footage is recorded and held in a secure location for the following 30 days, during which it can be reviewed at the request of the police and other authorised third parties.
Cameras are located at key locations throughout the town.

Why do we need CCTV?
We have CCTV cameras installed to deter anti-social behaviour and prevent crime, providing a safer environment for the whole community.
We understand that residents may be worried about the use of CCTV to monitor public areas. The CCTV system is operated under a code of practice which is regularly reviewed to ensure that it complies with all required legislation and guidance, such as data protection and human rights legislation.
All the CCTV operators are also fully trained and work to a strict code of practice governing the use of the CCTV.
The CCTV system will be used as follows:
- To work in partnership with the Police to improve community safety, and any other circumstances which will benefit the public good
- To reduce the fear of crime, which includes assisting the Police in the prevention and/or detection of crime
- To enable the identification, apprehension and prosecution of people carrying out crime, disorder and other criminal matters
- To assist Police Controllers to allocate an appropriate response to incidents occurring in the areas within the field of vision of the surveillance equipment
- To assist the local authority with enforcement information and action under its licensing powers
Access to CCTV footage
If you require access to CCTV footage in Hayle relating to a criminal offence, you should contact the police on 101.
Subject Access Requests from anyone requesting footage in which their personal data is captured can complete a form by following this link: Data Subject Access Request (SAR)
There may be restrictions on this data. We will not release images if doing so would have an impact upon a criminal investigation or infringe upon another person’s privacy.
Please note that Hayle Town Council does not have direct access to CCTV footage.
