Elections 2025 & Co-Option

Hayle’s three Wards were uncontested in May 2025, which means that nominated candidates and pre-existing candidates were elected automatically. The notice of Uncontested Elections for 2025 can viewed here.

We currently have one vacancy for the West Ward which needs to be filled via an election. This vacancy will be advertised again in the upcoming weeks so please see out website, social media and town noticeboards for further information. Once this one position is filled, we can look to fill the remaining vacant seats by co-option.

If you’d like to know more about what’s involved, why not come along to one of our Council or Committee Meetings, or feel free to contact the Town Clerk or any one of the current, serving members, for an informal chat.

What is Co-Option?

This is the process of where a vacant seat on a parish or town council is filled by appointment rather than an election.

When does Co-Option Occur?

  • if there aren’t enough candidates after an election
  • a councillor resigns or dies
  • a disqualification occurs
  • when a councillor stands down mid-term

The following vacancies are available:

Hayle Central Ward: 2 vacancies
Hayle East Ward: 1 vacancies
Hayle West Ward: 2 vacancy
